LAND CLEARING

You may have recently bought land that you want to build a business, house, shop or pond on but you’re not sure where to start. Depending on the attributes of your land, land clearing is likely going to be the first step towards your ultimate goal. Undeveloped land is often less expensive and can provide a “blank slate” for you to create the site of your dreams. Land clearing can also be used to prepare your land for agricultural use or food plots for attracting wildlife for hunting.

What is Land Clearing?

Land clearing is a process where objects like brush, stumps, trees, and other obstacles are removed allowing you to use your land as you desire

What steps are involved in land clearing?

1. Site exploration and planning

⁃ You will want to walk your land and determine what all you want cleared. You will also want to decide what you’d like done with the trees that will be cleared. Options include burning, mulching to ground, saving for future use/fire wood and selling for timber (typically only practical for hardwood forest).

2. Review permit and zoning requirements

3. Obtain permits, if applicable

4. Removal of vegetation and large rocks

5. Demolition and disposal of unwanted structures

6. Clearing of trees, brush and stumps

7. Removal of trees using your selected method

8. Removing tree stumps, as needed

9. Leveling and dressing the ground, as desired

What can impact the cost and timeline of your land clearing project?

1. The presence of steep hills, cliffs, large trees and rocks

2. The size of area to be cleared

3. The weather - Wet weather can cause project delays due to the weight of the equipment used in land clearing
